Patient Care Technician

About This Role

The Patient Care Technician performs and delivers patient care activities and related non-professional services for assigned hospital patients under the direction of registered nurses or licensed practical nurses. This role supports patients based on the scope of services within the department.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily physical and emotional care to patients including bathing, toileting, feeding, and ambulating.
• Answer call lights in a timely fashion.
• Assist licensed personnel as directed.
• Accurately obtain vital signs, height, weight, intake/output, and perform other procedures as per competency.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment, utilizing appropriate infection control techniques in patient rooms, utility rooms, and the unit.
• Recognize when to seek help from licensed personnel, such as when there are changes in patient condition.
• Transport patients as needed.
• Provide input to the interdisciplinary health care team.
• Act as a preceptor to all new and orientee Nurse Assistants.
• Demonstrate use of appropriate body mechanics.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalency
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalency
• Nursing home or acute care experience preferred.
