Part Time Solid Waste Driver

About This Role

Operate large and complex specialized equipment for the Public Works Division, including solid waste collection vehicles, and perform related maintenance and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Drives and operates large or heavy equipment requiring a commercial driver's license (CDL) in Public Works
• Operates smaller and less complex equipment as necessary
• Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment
• Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspection on equipment
• Adjusts equipment as needed for specialized operations requiring accuracy
• Maintains simple records of equipment operation
• May lead a crew in routine daily operations
• May instruct subordinate equipment operators in various equipment operations
• Will be required to work in emergency situations after hours
• Must maintain and wear personal protective equipment at work zones

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED
• Valid commercial operator’s license (CDL A or B) at the time of placement
• Driving record sufficient for coverage by City’s auto liability coverage
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment and material
• Ability to work in adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather and hazardous conditions
• Ability to work extensive hours after 5:00 pm and weekend work

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of light equipment or trucks and six (6) months experience operating the equipment required by the position, or any combination of education and experience leading to a comparable level of knowledge and skill.
