Park Construction & Maintenance Worker

About This Role

Perform journey-level work in the construction and maintenance of parks and related facilities for the City of Lubbock.

Responsibilities

• Repair, maintain and install park equipment including picnic tables, benches, signs, and related fixtures
• Assist crews in set-up for special events including moveable bleachers, staging and sound equipment, props and other equipment
• Operate trucks, backhoes, tractors, forklifts, jackhammers and other construction equipment as required
• Supervise the work of temporary employees making repairs at various locations on the route
• Maintain vehicles and equipment
• Purchase materials and supplies needed to accomplish daily assignments as approved, using approved purchasing procedures
• Troubleshoot and repair water fountains, faucets, drip lines, toilets, sinks, sprinkler heads and other plumbing fixtures
• Cut and make reliable welds to repair metal objects or equipment

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1 year experience in maintenance and construction of parks and related facilities
• Valid Texas Driver's License
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of motorized vehicles and equipment
• Knowledge of types of hand tools and power tools
• Knowledge of routine plumbing, concrete construction, carpentry, and clean up of large areas
• Ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical strength and endurance
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to work cooperatively with others
• Ability to supervise the work of others

Qualifications

• High school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year experience in maintenance and construction of parks and related facilities; or any combination of relevant education and experience
• 1+ year experience in maintenance and construction of parks and related facilities
