The Paralegal position supports defense attorneys at the Colorado State Public Defender, applying criminal procedures and legal practices to assist with litigation needs. This role involves learning legal principles and contributing to the defense team's mission.
Responsibilities
- Learn and apply criminal procedures, rules, and laws guiding legal practice in criminal defense
- Apply principles and practices of a paralegal nature to support and assist with a variety of litigation needs
- Support divisions, units, cases, and clients under the specific direction and guidance of a defense attorney
- Serve as part of the defense team, bound by Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct including attorney-client privilege and client confidentiality
Requirements
- Paralegal certificate from an ABA approved paralegal studies program or accredited institution OR two years of experience performing legal support functions such as organizing and preparing legal case files, legal research, drafting legal documents, and compiling and analyzing records and data from legal sources
Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate from an ABA approved paralegal studies program or accredited institution
- Two years of a combination of training and experience performing legal support functions may substitute for education
