Packaging Operator

About This Role

Operate, monitor, and adjust packaging equipment to ensure efficient production and adherence to quality standards. This role involves maintaining safe work practices, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting the team leader in directing packaging laborers.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe work practices and participate in safety programs
• Monitor line-flow rates and adjust vibrators for optimum bagger performance
• Order packaging materials from storage as needed
• Monitor bagger operation, ensuring proper product feed and adjusting bag weights to meet Q.A. standards
• Change tape, wires, paper, and poly rolls on baggers
• Monitor Dyna-pack and Case Settler operations, adjusting settings for different fiber and minimizing breakage
• Monitor Case Sealer operation, adjusting glue patterns and changing glue heads as needed
• Monitor Ink-jet Coder, programming proper code statements and adjusting for optimum code placement and clarity
• Monitor line sanitation, keeping equipment and floors clean and ensuring food safety
• Record packaging machinery efficiencies, downtime, and fill out reports accurately

Requirements

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English
• Ability to write accurate information on simple forms in English
• Ability to effectively present or listen to information in one-on-one and small group situations in English
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
