On-site Interpreter

About This Role

Facilitate communication in various settings like education, medical, legal, and community environments as an independent contractor. This role requires accuracy, cultural understanding, and adherence to professional and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all Baystate Interpreters, Inc. policies related to information security and confidentiality (HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA)
• Provide accurate on-site interpretation between English and designated target languages
• Follow interpreter protocols and procedures as required by Baystate Interpreters, Inc. and respective clients
• Uphold interpreter ethics standards (IMIA, NCIHC, ATA, NAJIT, ISO)
• Maintain principles of confidentiality, accuracy, impartiality, professionalism, and cultural competence
• Establish and maintain positive, professional interactions with patients, customers, and healthcare providers
• Continuously improve specialized vocabulary and subject matter knowledge
• Demonstrate professionalism, neutrality, and confidentiality throughout the interpretation process
• Provide high-quality interpretation with no omissions or additions
• Effectively manage assignments, demonstrating punctuality, preparedness, and adaptability

Requirements

• Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• 21 years of age or older
• Proficiency in English and at least one additional language
• Strong communication skills
• Composed demeanor in challenging situations
• Flexibility and reliability for per diem assignments
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills
• Familiarity with HIPAA and confidentiality regulations

Nice to Have

• Completion of a 60-hour Medical Interpreter Training Course
