As a Nutrition Assistant, you will perform a variety of patient food service and dish duties under the direct supervision of the Nutritional Services Manager, ensuring exceptional patient-centered care and adherence to infection control and food safety practices.
Responsibilities
- Assemble food trays for Room Service patients appropriate for general and therapeutic diets
- Prepare and deliver items as requested by nursing staff or patients
- Maintain Room Service tray line in a clean, neat, and organized manner
- Prepare special diet foods as necessary
- Deliver food in carts to rooms and place appropriate trays at patient bedside while checking 2 patient identifiers
- Load and oversee dishwashers
- Wash specified items by hand, including pots, pans, and knives
- Dispose of trash and garbage in appropriate manner and as needed
- Put clean dishes and utensils away
- Mop floors as scheduled and as necessary
- Clean walk-in refrigerators and storage areas
- Assist in preparing pudding, jello, and nourishments
- Perform special cleaning duties as assigned by the Nutritional Services Manager
- Maintain good working relationships both within the department and with other departments
- Treat patients and families with respect and dignity
- Observe infection control and Food Safety practices at all times
- Participate in departmental performance improvement activities
- Via telephone, take and respond to patient requests and orders for room service trays using the Room Service Computer Program
- Prepare and deliver p.m. nourishments to appropriate nurse stations
- Clean soiled dishes, trays, load dish racks, and run them through the dish machine
- Load prewashed pots and pans into dish racks, run them through the dish machine, unrack them to a sanitized area, and put them away after air drying
Requirements
- Minimum age 16
Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred
Nice to Have
- Previous experience in hospital food preparation
- Successful completion of ServSafe exam
