About This Role

This role involves assessing patient health, providing pre- and post-operative care, and performing therapeutic procedures as a Neurosurgery Physician Assistant. The position requires effective communication, adherence to AdventHealth's values, and collaboration within a medical team.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external patients and customers (in person, electronically, over the telephone)
  • Exhibit respect for co-workers and develop positive working relationships within the practice, hospital, and other departments
  • Assess patient health by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations, and identifying medical/surgical conditions
  • Obtain, update, and study patient medical and surgical histories.
  • Provide continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans
  • Determine abnormalities by ordering and/or administering appropriate diagnostic tests (X-rays, electrocardiograms, laboratory studies)
  • Review and interpret patient test results
  • Provide pre- and post-operative care and patient education
  • Perform therapeutic procedures (injections, suturing, drain management, dressing changes, wound care, infection management)
  • Perform hospital rounds on surgical consultations, pre- and post-operative hospital patients
  • Perform and/or assist the supervising physician with discharge services (discharge planning, summaries, coordinating follow-up care)
  • Serve as surgical first-assist during operating procedures
  • Perform surgical skin closures, suturing, and related operative care
  • Perform hospital on-call services in support of the supervising physician on-call (weekdays and weekends over 24-hour periods)
  • Assist in emergency care services directly related to the surgical specialty (consultations, surgical procedures)
  • Document patient care services by appropriately charting in patient and department records

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of techniques required for diagnosing, treating, prescribing medicines for pre and post-operative patients
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant studies
  • State of Florida PA License
  • Certification from NAACP
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
