Build the mobile foundation for an AI-powered assistant (Project Sparky) by designing and scaling high-performance iOS and Android systems. You will integrate deeply with generative and agentic AI, partnering with AI/ML and backend teams to deliver next-generation conversational experiences for millions of customers. This role is part of Walmart's Emerging Tech team, driving AI transformation and influencing how millions shop every day.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve native mobile experiences used by millions of customers every day.
- Design mobile architectures that balance performance, reliability, and speed.
- Partner closely with product, design, and backend teams to deliver polished, intuitive user experiences.
- Lead discovery, prototyping, and technical direction for new mobile capabilities.
- Write and maintain production quality code, including debugging, performance tuning, and readiness for release.
- Mentor teammates and help raise the bar for mobile engineering practices across the organization.
Requirements
- Native mobile development expertise (Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android)
- Strong track record of delivering features, debugging complex issues, and improving code quality.
- Experience integrating backend services and navigating large codebases.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area
- 3-7+ years of native mobile development experience (Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android) or 5 years in software engineering with a related bachelor's degree, or 7 years in software engineering (for mid-level). For more senior positions: 7-10+ years for Staff Engineer, 10-20+ years for Principal/Distinguished Engineer.
Nice to Have
- Experience leading large, cross-functional initiatives with broad technical impact (for senior roles)
- Proven ability to scale mobile systems, improve performance, and elevate developer workflows (for senior roles)
- Strong understanding of mobile architecture, performance, and CI/CD pipelines (for mid-level roles)
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical and design decisions (for mid-level roles)
