Microbiologist

About This Role

Conduct microbiological efficacy testing of cleaning products, complete daily test assignments, and perform lab maintenance. This role contributes to ensuring product safety and quality within the Consumer Products Services division.

Responsibilities

• Execute microbiological efficacy testing of cleaning products using client protocols, routine practices, and client-specific methodology
• Perform microbiological techniques including diluting, plating, counting colonies, culturing (via various media and preparations), plate pouring, and plate streaking
• Identify organisms through routine means (gram staining) and identification via mass spectrometry (MSID)
• Complete daily test assignments, tasks, and side work such as test prep, data collection, and inputting data into ELN
• Order media and maintain inventory as needed
• Maintain schedule and ensure completeness of organism preparation
• Escalate troubleshooting needs and instrumentation issues to the client
• Complete lab work within the expected timeframe defined by the client
• Record data in the Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) system and peer review others' ELN entries daily
• Perform lab maintenance including deep cleans, making stock solutions, stocking consumable materials, proper storage of research materials, and organization of lab reagents
• Conduct daily calibrations of instrumentation as needed, log entries, and report out-of-spec instrumentation to client sponsor
• Utilize safe waste disposal practices in accordance with site regulations and waste vendor

Requirements

• BS in a Scientific degree field

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Scientific degree field; Microbiology preferred
• 1+ year(s) of experience with Microbiology lab preferred

• Chemistry, Microbiology, and/or Molecular Biology experience
• Ability to work independently on multiple research projects
• Capability to generate specific SOP’s
• Data management and data analysis experience
• Experience in troubleshooting and problem solving
• Familiarity with tenets of microbiology skillset described
• Open communication regarding status of samples, experiments, and instrumentation with team members and clients
• Ability and interest to work in a highly supervised environment
• Familiarity learning basic computer software (may be instrument-related)
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel
• 1+ year(s) of experience with Microbiology lab
