Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate laboratory systems and personnel responsible for collecting and processing specimens, ensuring accurate data for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Consult with direct management on compliance, test procedures, and administrative matters, while overseeing the efficient operation of the laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate laboratory systems and personnel for specimen collection and processing
- Consult with Laboratory Manager and Pathologist Director regarding compliance, regulations, and test procedures
- Oversee administrative, fiscal, and technical activities to ensure efficient laboratory operation
- Assure CLIA certification and compliance with CLIA regulations
- Manage departmental administrative and financial functions, including operating budgets
- Make recommendations for capital budgets and equipment/supply purchases
- Be responsible for Joint Commission accreditation and interact with representatives
- Supervise continuing education programs and orient new staff
- Prepare reports, payroll records, and statistical data
- Participate in developing systems for recording and reporting patient test results
- Evaluate personnel performance in various laboratory disciplines
- Supervise the processing and charging of laboratory tests, including corrections
- Address complaints regarding laboratory functions and resolve them with appropriate personnel
- Communicate new laboratory functions and assure new analyzer implementation studies are completed
- Maintain hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and objectives
- Assure care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies, and oversee cost control measures
- Maintain all required records, reports, statistics, and other documents
- Verify test procedures and establish laboratory test performance characteristics
- Prepare staffing schedules and address immediate staffing issues
- Be responsible for quality assurance and quality control programs
- Assure accuracy and completeness in the admission, discharge, and billing process within the laboratory
- Interview applicants for employment and communicate staffing needs with management
- Participate in administrative task forces, committees, and teams
- Prepare Performance Improvement and Blood Utilization reports
- Enroll and participate in an HHS approved proficiency testing program
- Assure timely completion of employee orientation, competency, and annual evaluation
- Assure safe work practices and conditions, taking appropriate action to correct and enforce them
- Assure review of initial and annual employee competency testing per CLIA requirements
- Maintain competency in all laboratory departments
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Medical Technology, or chemical, physical or biological science
- 4 years training/experience in high complexity testing
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Medical Technology, or chemical, physical or biological science
- 4 years training/experience in high complexity testing in the respective specialty/subspecialty
