Perform high-quality diagnostic testing on patient specimens in a clinical laboratory environment focusing on microbiology. Operate and maintain advanced laboratory instrumentation, conduct routine and specialized testing, and ensure accurate, timely reporting of results.
Responsibilities
- Operate Hologic Panther, DiaSorin Liaison XL, and Vitek2 analyzers for testing patient blood, stool or urine specimens
- Load and replenish reagents/consumables into immunoassay analyzers
- Perform routine equipment calibrations, troubleshooting and documentation to meet quality control standards
- Ensure patient specimens are acceptable, labelled, and organized for tests to be performed
- Count and maintain reagent inventory
- Review and evaluate test results for validity before entering them into laboratory software, identifying inconclusive or invalid results
- Ensure specimen testing schedule/pacing is met and equipment maintenance/calibration is followed
- Correctly input medical test results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in a punctual manner, especially for STAT specimens
- Consistently and correctly follow established scientific protocols and perform reagent preparations without contamination
- Perform routine Bacterial culture, identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST)
- Conduct Fungal, parasitic, and mycobacterial microscopic examinations
- Participate in quality assurance and proficiency testing programs
Requirements
- 3-5 years of Microbiology laboratory experience
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field
- Certification as a Microbiology Medical Technologist (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent)
- Proficient with the practice of aseptic technique and knowledge of how to properly sterilize surfaces and equipment
- Competent in safely handling and preventing exposures to any potentially biohazardous chemicals and reagents
- Basic computer literacy
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field
- 3-5 years of Microbiology laboratory experience
