The Medical Receptionist provides crucial front office support within a medical center, handling patient scheduling, registration, and payment processing, as well as managing incoming calls and clerical functions. This role is essential for ensuring smooth patient flow and an organized medical office environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional service to all customers
- Greet patients as they arrive and manage wait time
- Complete check-in and check-out tasks, including insurance verification and copying required documents
- Collect co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles, and issue receipts
- Manage cashier box and daily deposits according to company policies
- Process walk-in patients and visitors
- Use, protect, and disclose patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with HIPAA standards
- Answer phones and schedule appointments as necessary, verifying correct visit type and primary care provider
- Answer telephone calls, re-direct calls, assist callers, and take messages
- Manage medical records (maintain, file/scan, prepare for schedule)
- Ensure all correspondence is scanned and/or filed, process requests for medical records release, and maintain appropriate logs
- Responsible for waiting room management, cleanliness, communicating pertinent information to patients, and ensuring all patients have been assisted
- Work with back-office staff to ensure smooth patient flow
- Resolve service issues and complaints, deferring to appropriate management or clinical personnel when necessary
- Assist co-workers and team members with duties when requested, including floating to other areas
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
- 1+ years of customer service-related experience
- 1+ years of experience with MS Office
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1+ years of customer service-related experience
Nice to Have
- 1+ years of experience in a medical office or medical environment
- Previous experience with medical insurance
- Prior experience with EMR computer applications
- Working knowledge of medical terminology/medical coding
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
