About This Role

The Medical Interpreter Translator Lead facilitates clear, accurate, and effective medical and general interpretation for healthcare staff, patients, companions, and visitors. This role involves interpreting complex medical information and managing complex scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret complex medical information to patients and/or companions
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Healthcare
  • Assess and monitor patients' understanding of information conveyed
  • Advise medical personnel about cultural information that may impact patient care
  • Interpret with the highest degree of accuracy and completeness in consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation modes
  • Maintain knowledge of medical and general terminology
  • Utilize a variety of technology, tools, and resources to support departmental workflows
  • Serve as a role model, mentor, trainer, and/or resource to coworkers
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and may assume leadership responsibility during management absence

Requirements

  • Superior fluency in one or more languages in addition to English
  • Successfully pass language assessment through St. Luke's Health System prior to hire

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years relevant experience

Certifications

Minimum 40 Hours of Professional Medical Interpreter Training (Required) Certified Healthcare Interpreter from Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters OR Certified Medical Interpreter from The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (Required)
