Medical Director

About This Role

This Medical Director position provides advanced medical services to inmate patients within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system, ensuring timely and accessible healthcare. The role involves coordinating clinical care, rendering medical judgment, and supervising a team of Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients.
• Coordinate the delivery of clinical health care within a TDCJ Correctional institution, ensuring appropriate health care is accessible and provided to the inmate population.
• Render medical judgment regarding care provided to inmates according to TTUHSC Managed Care Standard Operating Procedures, Correctional Managed Health Care Policies and Procedures, and American Correctional Association Standards.
• Supervise Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, delegating, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
• Perform patient care, including physical exams, medication orders per established formulary, labs, and X-rays.
• Complete charts, death summaries, and Grievance Reviews.
• Interact closely with Utilization Management regarding patient specialty care and resource management.
• Consult with the Clinical Pharmacist for medication consultation.
• Work in a correctional institution with contact with inmates, managing deadlines, interruptions, and meetings.
• Collaborate with Contractors, Specialists, and staff at TTUHSC and Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Requirements

• Current license to practice medicine by the Texas Medical Board
• Current Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration certificate
