About This Role

Assist Ophthalmologists in providing excellent patient care by monitoring vital signs, maintaining aseptic technique, and assisting with various surgical procedures and patient education in an ophthalmology setting. This role supports the overall efficiency and safety of the surgery center.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor vital signs and transport patients
  • Maintain aseptic technique at all times and observe for breaks in technique
  • Care properly for contaminated items
  • Assist in stocking OR supplies and maintaining adequate inventory of surgical supplies
  • Check equipment (e.g., sterilizer, refrigerator temperature) each surgical day and document results
  • Assist in pre-op assessment and discontinue Hep-Locks
  • Assist in post-op instruction review with patients
  • Perform fingerstick blood sugar and document results in medical record
  • Assist physician during laser procedures
  • Report pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to nurses and/or physician
  • Identify patient and family teaching needs and initiate intervention to meet them
  • Participate in economical utilization of supplies and medication, ensuring equipment is clean and safe

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One year of related experience and/or training, or equivalent
  • Commitment to work over 40 hours to meet business needs
  • Ability to work weekends when applicable
  • Reliable transportation to multiple work locations with minimal notice

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice to Have

  • Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification
