About This Role

This role involves designing, developing, and analyzing AC and DC air-cooled and oil-cooled generators within the design-engineering department. The Mechanical Engineer I will provide technical support through all phases of a project, from proposals to production support.

Responsibilities

  • Design individual parts and assemblies of rotating machines to meet customer requirements and targeted performances with support from a lead engineer
  • Develop CAD 3D models and 2D drawings
  • Conduct analysis necessary for design efforts, including tolerance stack-up and bearing load calculations
  • Ensure designs adhere to SAFRAN and industry standards like GD&T and design for manufacturing
  • Act as a peer reviewer and participate in technical reviews (design, manufacturing, test)
  • Adhere to budget and schedule provided by the business
  • Review customer specifications and support technical proposals, cost estimates, and test procedures
  • Initiate actions to solve problems for ongoing and new product designs
  • Communicate openly and transparently on design progress, difficulties, and risks
  • Provide assistance and support testing of new and legacy products with guidance from a lead engineer

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Previous engineering experience (full-time, part-time, or co-op/internship)
  • Fundamental mechanical engineering design principles
  • Ability to create and interpret blueprints and drawings, including GD&T
  • Technical judgment on various mechanical engineering disciplines
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals/teams at all levels
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and reporting skills
  • Experience with CAD 3D models and 2D drawings
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Experience with basic tooling including measuring equipment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Previous full-time, part-time, or co-op/internship engineering experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Rotating Machines design (motors, generators)
  • Experience with design principles, creating and interpreting blueprints, drawings including GD&T
  • Design of Bearing systems
  • Design of wound components
  • Rotor Dynamics knowledge
  • Oil and air cooling experience
  • Familiarity with DO160, ARP4754A, and ARP4761
  • Experience with CATIA
