Mechanic Diesel Technician

About This Role

Perform complex vehicle maintenance and repair duties on heavy-duty vehicles, including diagnostics and inspections, while mentoring junior technicians. This role supports a truck fleet at Ryder in Savannah, GA.

Responsibilities

• Perform standard vehicle maintenance
• Perform preventive maintenance
• Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Complete complex and detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Work unsupervised on most tasks
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation
• Work in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines
• Act as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
• Access and use internal and external maintenance documents

Requirements

• Basic tools
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines
• Routine preventative maintenance experience (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Basic diagnostics and repairs experience (AC and electrical systems)
• 2+ years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy duty and medium duty equipment
• Ability to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications preferred
• 2+ years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy duty and medium duty equipment; 3+ years relevant work experience preferred
