About This Role

This is an Entry Level Operations position responsible for assisting senior Material Handling Equipment (MHE) technicians with maintenance activities related to material handling equipment and industrial batteries, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an understanding and adherence to all work safety policies, procedures, and governing requirements
  • Learn/gain knowledge of controls and electric (AC & DC) low voltage
  • Learn to perform and maintain power material handling equipment (MHE) including preventive maintenance (PM) checking, draining and filling oil levels, checking/adjusting/replacing belts and chains, and troubleshooting electrical controls issues
  • Learn/gain knowledge of hydraulic systems/schematics/components, electrical systems/schematics (AC and DC) systems, drive motors, power amps, and electrical controls including PLC systems
  • Learn/gain knowledge of mechanical systems including transmissions, drive units, differentials, braking systems, telescopic masts, reach mechanisms, steering systems, and suspension systems
  • Complete all special projects associated with buildings or grounds, such as moving furniture, changing lights, light carpentry, painting, light plumbing, and repairing minor electrical devices
  • Perform Battery Maintenance duties including battery charger repairs, battery changes for MHE, repair of plugs and tips of batteries and chargers, watering and washing batteries, acid spill clean up, and setting equalizing charge on batteries
  • Participate in departmental on-call program, as designated
  • Log time and materials into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) on a daily basis in the form of work orders, P.M.s, etc.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in clean, safe, working order and adhere to all safety requirements and wear proper Personal Protective Equipment

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Valid state Driver's License
  • Ability to complete a Sysco approved defensive driving program
  • Ability to obtain a Powered Industrial Equipment Certification from Sysco within 3 months

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); Tech school or equivalent is preferred (2 years)
  • Two years in an MHE maintenance position preferred (No experience required)

Nice to Have

  • Tech school or equivalent (2 years)
  • Two years in an MHE maintenance position
  • MHE 8 hour maintenance tech certificate from MHE manufacturer
