About This Role

Provide safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles by performing quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs. Responsibilities include expert diagnosis and repair to prevent breakdowns, reduce vehicle downtime, and improve total fleet reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment within planned time tolerances
  • Perform FAI/CVI (Annual) inspections on all fleet vehicles, including tractors, trailers, and light-duty vehicles, according to regulations
  • Perform quality preventive maintenance inspections per company methods on all fleet vehicles and owned equipment
  • Perform quality maintenance repairs to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles and equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnosis, and repair on refrigeration units (Reefer)
  • Address all Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write-ups timely and efficiently
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications on various vehicle systems
  • Document all work performed on work orders following established procedures
  • Mentor, teach, and share expertise with Fleet Technician I and II
  • Perform moderate supervisory roles when Fleet Manager or Fleet Supervisors are not accessible
  • Perform electrical repairs and welding projects as needed

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current and valid driver's license
  • Medium / Heavy Duty truck technical training
  • Expert knowledge and skill of all vehicle systems and components
  • Expert knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on all equipment
  • Expert knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of refrigeration systems
  • Expert knowledge and skill in Preventive Maintenance Inspections and repair
  • Proficient in electrical meter testing
  • Knowledge of controls and electric (DC low voltage)
  • Electric motor knowledge (DC)
  • Expert knowledge of all DOT (FMCSA) regulations
  • Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software for OEM's and component manufacturers
  • Ability to provide own tools necessary for maintenance, repair, and diagnostics

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2-year technical school and 4 years of experience OR 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair

Nice to Have

  • CDL preferred
  • Moderate knowledge and skill in welding and cutting (gas, electric, MIG, TIG)
  • Moderate computer skills and knowledge
  • Moderate knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
  • Moderate knowledge of environmental regulations

Certifications

Annual Inspector Certification (Required) Brake Inspector Certification (Required) ASE certifications & Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks (Required) EPA section 608 (Core & Type II) and 609 HVAC & Refrigeration Certification (Required)
