Material Handler

About This Role

The Material Handler will join a team responsible for pulling, loading, and receiving steel materials, ensuring operations are supported safely and efficiently. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to Triple-S safe methods of work at all times and report unsafe conditions immediately
• Safely and properly move steel using hand, forklift, overhead crane, and other equipment
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds for up to 25 feet to heights of 5 feet
• Apply proper bundling techniques and configure loads based on planned routes to maximize trailer capacity safely
• Maintain and safely operate assigned tools and equipment including tape measure, caliper, hammer, pallet trucks, banding machine, micrometer, beam hooks, plate lifting clamps, forklift, and overhead crane
• Determine and report safety issues pertaining to equipment
• Work efficiently both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
• Attend all required company meetings

Requirements

• Ability to correctly read work orders or receive oral instructions
• Ability to safely meet or exceed minimum productivity levels
• Ability to plan and organize work activities independently and work in a team environment
• Ability to maintain spatial orientation and awareness in a work environment with many moving objects
• Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform continuous daily activity involving moving steel

Nice to Have

• Good working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures
• Ability to maintain inter-department communications
• Strong customer relations skills
