The Paper Machine Associate Manager provides direct supervision and guidance to a team of 11-15 employees, ensuring optimal production performance and adherence to safety and quality standards. This role is crucial for leading continuous improvement efforts and fostering a skilled workforce within the paper machine department.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily communication and direction to the shift, resolving issues as they arise
- Ensure all production schedules and releases are met
- Manage individual performance, addressing unacceptable behavior or performance through disciplinary action if necessary
- Prepare and distribute daily shift reports
- Conduct daily audits to ensure compliance with safety, housekeeping, and job standards
- Communicate identified problems to support teams and provide status feedback to crews
- Support mill and department goals in safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, productivity, and continuous improvement
- Accountable for overall shift performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Complete all shift accident investigations within a 24-hour period, ensuring corrective actions are taken
- Manage individual job assignments and crew member training plans
- Mentor, coach, and develop technical mastery of operations personnel on paper machine fundamentals and skills
- Foster employee engagement initiatives and encourage a behavior-based crew lead safety process
- Liaison with other department managers to optimize mill production
- Administer and implement Labor Relations (CBA) in consultation with Human Resources
Requirements
- 5+ years of supervision in a manufacturing environment
- Good people skills and ability to influence people
- Good Organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Able to motivate people to perform at a higher level
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree a plus or 5+ years of supervision
- 5-7 years of previous Paper Machine Supervisory Experience preferred, or 5+ years of supervision in a manufacturing environment
Nice to Have
- Previous Paper Machine Supervisory Experience
- SAP experience
- Continuous Improvement – Lean Six-Sigma, Lean/Six Sigma knowledge
