The Manager – Admissions & Registration oversees the daily operations and strategic management of patient admissions, registration, and central communications, ensuring accurate and efficient access to hospital services. This role supervises a team responsible for front-end revenue cycle processes and supports compliance, staffing, and training to promote operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Direct and manage all functions related to inpatient and outpatient admissions, registration, and switchboard operations
- Serve as a liaison between patients, staff, physicians, visitors, and external stakeholders
- Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures; ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards
- Oversee employee scheduling, payroll processing, attendance tracking, and staffing coverage
- Maintain the registration dictionaries within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
- Monitor departmental supplies, resources, and budgets; ensure cost-effective operations
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance evaluations for departmental personnel
- Lead employee training in areas such as compliance, HIPAA, customer service, and system functionality
- Collaborate with privacy officer to maintain HIPAA readiness and staff awareness
- Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and disciplinary actions as needed
Requirements
- 2+ years in a supervisory or management role in patient access or hospital admissions
- Postsecondary formal training in admissions and switchboard operations
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
- Familiarity with EHR systems and patient access platforms
- Ability to manage and train staff in a healthcare environment
- Skilled in conflict resolution, time management, and multitasking
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and data management tools
- Ability to function under stress and resolve complex service issues promptly
Qualifications
- Postsecondary (Cert/Diploma/Program Grad) completion of formal training programs in admissions and switchboard operations
- Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or management role in patient access or hospital admissions
