This role provides leadership and oversight for the development and maintenance of Health Information Management (HIM) applications and records within the enterprise electronic medical record (EMR) system. It ensures data integrity, security, and regulatory compliance for medical information.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for HIM application build, development, and ongoing maintenance within the EMR and integrated electronic document management (EDM) system.
- Ensure data integrity of Protected Health Information (PHI) within the medical record and legal medical record (LMR), appropriate security and access, and required regulatory documentation.
- Provide direct leadership and organizational planning for integral systems, processes, and assigned staff supporting this function.
- Manage assigned systems and applications from an operational perspective, collaborating with ISD technical partners for technology initiatives and projects.
- Coordinate activities with other clinical information systems, technical specialists, and external experts to ensure efficient decisions.
- Direct and manage work completed by assigned team, including mass data updates, data conversion analysis, and scanning initiatives.
- Recruit, hire, train, evaluate performance, and provide guidance to staff, improving employee engagement.
- Develop operating policies and procedures, goals, and objectives related to data integrity and system management.
- Provide regular analyses and reporting regarding data integrity operations, performance, and application functionality.
- Act as a resource to staff, interpreting and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 years of relevant experience in healthcare, security, access, privacy or HIM/EMPI management
- Experience coordinating or facilitating change management
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking, problem solving, prioritization, and project management skills
- Attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word, Visio, etc.) and virtual servers and integration
- EPIC Certification within 180 days
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 years of relevant experience in healthcare, security, access, privacy or HIM/EMPI management, with experience coordinating or facilitating change management.
Nice to Have
- Experience with EMR master files and coordination of maintenance functions
- RHIT/RHIA extensive HIM experience in a hospital or integrated system
- Experience with scanning systems
- Working knowledge of compliance and HIM framework, healthcare software, medical records management (eMPI), document or medical records management
