About This Role

Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to conduct inspections, surveys, and investigations in long-term care facilities, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. This role involves determining compliance, preparing reports, and verifying corrections of regulatory violations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct certification surveys, licensure inspections, or investigations in facilities to determine compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Prepare inspection/survey reports listing deficiencies
  • Visit facilities to verify correction of previously cited regulatory violations
  • Conduct exit conferences with facility staff regarding findings
  • Communicate on a complex level with others to provide, exchange, or verify information, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve problems or complaints
  • Testify at hearings or in court proceedings to provide information regarding policy/procedures, history, findings, or activities
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others
  • Complete referrals for conduct, as appropriate
  • Assist with non-skilled care and oversight to residents in a facility during emergency licensure action
  • Be available for on-call duties for emergencies such as weather events or high-priority situations

  • Ability to handle situations of high stress and conflict

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a human service field (including but not limited to sociology, education, social work, psychology, rehabilitation, counseling, humanities, allied health, behavioral science, early childhood intervention, and medical administration). A combination of work experience and education may substitute for a bachelor’s degree on a year-by-year basis for up to four years.
