This role provides administrative support in an inpatient unit, acting as a liaison between patients, visitors, and clinicians. It involves organizing priorities, managing confidential patient information, and coordinating day-to-day patient flow.
Responsibilities
- Perform clerical and other duties to assist in the general administration of the floor or unit
- Greet and interact with patients, families, visitors and coworkers in person and via communication tools in a professional manner
- Receive, prioritize, organize and manage information at the central nursing station, and throughout the unit
- Schedule consultations, tests, procedures, and patient transport to other departments
- Enter accurate and timely information about admissions, discharges and transfers into the electronic medical record
- Contact ancillary service departments to obtain equipment, services and supplies
- Track status and location of equipment and identifies and facilitates repairs
- Assist manager with payroll duties or scheduling of staff, or supervision of unit secretaries
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 2-3 years administrative support experience
- Proficiency with office procedures and equipment (filing, copying, scanning, printing, faxing)
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Ability to proofread and edit written documents
- Ability to use phone system
- Managing one's own time and the time of others
- Strong verbal & written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral skills
- Ability to use standard office equipment
- Familiarity with medical terminology
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 2-3 years administrative support experience, OB, ED or ICU experience preferred
Nice to Have
- Associate's Degree Related Field of Study
- Certified Health Unit Coordinator - National Association of Health Unit Coordinators (NAHUC)
- OB, ED or ICU experience
