This role provides essential administrative support to clinicians and staff within an inpatient unit, acting as the primary liaison between patients, visitors, and healthcare providers. Responsibilities include organizing priorities, managing sensitive patient information, and coordinating patient flow effectively. The Unit Coordinator ensures seamless administration and communication within the Labor and Delivery unit.
Responsibilities
- Perform clerical duties to assist in the general administration of the floor or unit
- Greet and interact with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers professionally in person and via communication tools
- Receive, prioritize, organize, and manage information at the central nursing station and throughout the unit
- Schedule consultations, tests, procedures, and patient transport to other departments
- Enter accurate and timely information into the electronic medical record about admissions, discharges, and transfers to facilitate efficient patient throughput
- Contact ancillary service departments to obtain equipment, services, and supplies, track status, and facilitate repairs
- Assist manager with payroll duties or staff scheduling, or supervision of unit secretaries (duties may vary by department)
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 2-3 years administrative support experience
- Proficiency with office procedures and equipment (filing, copying, scanning, printing, faxing)
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Ability to proofread and edit written documents
- Ability to use phone system
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with medical terminology
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 2-3 years of administrative support experience, with preferred experience in Labor & Delivery or OB
Nice to Have
- Associate's Degree Related Field of Study
- Certified Health Unit Coordinator - National Association of Health Unit Coordinators (NAHUC)
- L&D or OB experience
