About This Role

This role supports a member of the judiciary in the Civil Trial Division by providing logistical support for courtroom operations, managing correspondence and filing systems, and assisting with legal research and record keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Provide necessary logistical support for judge’s work in courtrooms
  • Maintain chambers filing system
  • Manage judicial correspondence and other office paperwork
  • Search for and study legal records and documents to obtain data applicable to cases under consideration
  • Assist judicial law clerks in setting up court matters and file preparation
  • Perform legal research and writing projects as assigned
  • Ensure dignity is provided in the courtroom
  • Accompany the appointing judge to all public functions

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a self-directed fashion
  • Ability to learn and apply components and functions of civil courtroom proceedings and related computer systems
  • Ability to learn trial procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions and communicate effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to research and analyze complex legal issues
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background investigation
  • Ability to ambulate to and from the courtroom
  • Ability to carry and/or transport files
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of a position in this class

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Nice to Have

  • Juris Doctorate is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of law and legal procedures
  • Experience in legal document preparation
  • Experience in a judicial or legal setting
