Intermediate Surgery Nurse

About This Role

The Registered Nurse plans and provides comprehensive patient care, demonstrating initiative and clinical skills for complex cases. This role involves assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans according to established nursing standards, contributing to quality management and ensuring a safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for assigned patients
• Set priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity
• Maintain continuity through clear and concise (verbal and written) communication
• Document patient care in a clear, complete, and concise manner in compliance with nursing documentation standards
• Develop a comprehensive educational plan for the patient and family
• Develop a comprehensive discharge plan utilizing appropriate resources and referrals
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care and revise as needed to achieve desired outcomes
• Administer medication safely according to established policies and procedures
• Perform nursing procedures safely and efficiently
• Participate in the orientation of new staff members and provide input into their clinical evaluation

Requirements

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
• Basic analytic thinking skills for patient care
• Observational skills and ability to set priorities
• Ability to function under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills
• Effective skills in applying hospital standards in service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current registration in Massachusetts. For newly licensed nurses a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required.
• Prior experience not required unless specified for certain specialty areas.
