Instructor - Economics Course

About This Role

This role involves developing, delivering, and evaluating engaging economics training courses for the Department of State. The instructor will collaborate with Course Chairs and technical staff to prepare and facilitate interactive sessions for adult learners.

Responsibilities

• Maintain regular communication with Course Chairs/Coordinators for content guidance and the Contractor for technical guidance
• Review and update existing course guidance, lesson plans, syllabi, and schedules to incorporate adult learning principles and interactive methods
• Create new materials or update existing ones based on research and expertise, ensuring compliance with NFATC and U.S. Government standards (including Section 508)
• Nominate and coordinate schedules for guest subject matter experts, informing them of presentation scope and objectives
• Ensure appropriate classroom set-up, functional audiovisual equipment, and necessary materials for in-person classes
• Verify student attendance for courses
• Lead sessions and present material for approximately half of the allotted course time, engaging students with lectures, discussions, and interactive activities
• Link course content to objectives, learner needs, and key issues, using formative assessments to monitor understanding
• Manage the classroom to ensure a safe and effective learning environment, adhering to NFATC norms
• Provide initial observations and recommendations concerning the course, materials, and facilities post-delivery
• Analyze student evaluation feedback to guide recommendations for future improvements

Requirements

• A post-graduate degree in economics or other academic field directly related to ESTH or at least ten years of working in this field
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience and substantive expertise in area of expertise (evidenced by published works, international/non-governmental organization experience, government employment, media appearances, past teaching/training)
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with instructional design, professional training, or academic teaching and delivery of engaging training for experienced, adult learners
• Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering adult education programs, particularly those dealing with complex ESTH issues and Government policies
• Demonstrated experience collaborating with a range of stakeholders within the U.S. foreign affairs or government foreign policy environment
• Ability to work independently, under deadline pressure, with diverse teams, and effectively liaise with State Department and USG personnel for course inputs
• Ability to provide print-ready course materials that are free of grammatical errors and contain consistent formatting
• Must be available to fulfill pre-established course schedule according to NFATC requirements
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
• Experience with online/remote learning platforms
• Understanding of the United States Government, the U.S. Department of State, and U.S. foreign affairs
• Fluent English

Qualifications

• A post-graduate degree in economics or other academic field directly related to Environment, Science, Technology, and Health (ESTH)
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience and substantive expertise in the field and minimum of 5 years of experience with instructional design, professional training, or academic teaching for adult learners.
