About This Role

Instruct Economics courses for the Department of State, designing and delivering engaging training that aligns with DOS standards. This role involves collaborating with Course Chairs and technical staff to create materials and facilitate interactive sessions for adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular communication with Course Chairs/Coordinators for content guidance on course development and delivery
  • Review and update existing course guidance, design, and syllabus to incorporate adult learning principles and interactive methods
  • Create new materials based on research and expertise, ensuring compliance with NFATC and U.S. Government standards (Section 508)
  • Coordinate with SPAS division staff to send welcome emails to students with pre-reading materials and the final course schedule
  • Identify and invite guest subject matter experts, facilitating their discussions to ensure coverage of learning points and objectives
  • Ensure appropriate classroom set-up, audiovisual equipment functionality, and presence of classroom materials for in-person classes
  • Attend all in-class activities, leading sessions and presenting material for approximately half of the allotted course time
  • Teach and engage students using a variety of interactive methods, linking content to course objectives and learner needs
  • Use formative assessments and real-time feedback to monitor student understanding and adjust instruction
  • Track daily student attendance and manage the classroom to ensure a safe and effective learning environment

Requirements

  • Post-graduate degree in economics or related ESTH field, or ten years working in ESTH field
  • 5+ years' experience and substantive expertise in area of expertise (evidenced by published works, international org/government employment, media, teaching)
  • 5+ years' experience with instructional design, professional training, or academic teaching for adult learners
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering adult education programs, especially dealing with complex ESTH issues and Government policies
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with various stakeholders (interagency partners, foreign officials, NGOs) within U.S. foreign affairs/government foreign policy
  • Ability to work independently, under deadline, with diverse teams, and liaise effectively with State Department/USG personnel
  • Ability to provide print-ready course materials free of errors and with consistent formatting
  • Available to fulfill pre-established course schedule according to NFATC requirements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Understanding of the United States Government, U.S. Department of State, and U.S. foreign affairs
  • Fluent English

Qualifications

  • A post-graduate degree in economics or other academic field directly related to Environment, Science, Technology, and Health (ESTH); PhD preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with instructional design, professional training, or academic teaching and delivery of engaging training for experienced, adult learners.
