Instructional Assistant - Vocational Education - Visual and Performing Arts

About This Role

Provide instructional support to individual or small groups of students in vocational education programs, prepare classroom equipment and materials, maintain supplies, and offer record-keeping and clerical support.

Responsibilities

• Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students in vocational education programs
• Monitor and oversee student drills, practices, and assignments
• Communicate with teachers, other staff, and students regarding lesson plans, issues, and student needs
• Follow health and safety practices and procedures, maintaining a clean and organized learning environment
• Monitor and maintain inventory levels of classroom supplies
• Operate a variety of equipment including audio-visual, instructional, general office, computer software, and industry-standard equipment
• Perform general record-keeping and clerical functions such as answering calls, typing, duplicating materials, and processing forms
• Prepare classroom equipment, materials, work areas, displays, and exhibits
• Provide instructional support to students individually or in small groups, reinforcing instruction and assisting with assignments

Requirements

• Ability to operate standard office equipment and pertinent computer/software applications
• Ability to operate industry-standard equipment relevant to Career Technical Education courses
• Knowledge of basic math
• Ability to understand written procedures and complex multi-step instructions
• Knowledge of grammar and punctuation concepts
• Knowledge of stages of child development and learning styles
• Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices
• Knowledge of safe classroom practices
• Knowledge of basic instructional methods and techniques
• Ability to schedule activities and collate data

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent AND completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; or an associate's (or higher) degree; or passing the District's local assessment
• 2 years experience working with functions related to assigned vocational education program

Nice to Have

• Competency in 3D animation software (Softimage, 3D Studio)
• Experience with animals, greenhouse responsibilities, FFA, or preparing students for San Diego County Fair (Agriculture area)
• Experience in mechanical and automotive maintenance and repair (Automotive area)
• Experience with hand and power tools, trade knowledge of woodworking/cabinetmaking (Cabinetmaking area)
• Six college semester units (12 preferred) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, and CPR/First Aid Certification (Parent Program area)
• CAD competency (AutoCAD 2003)
• Experience in video production, camera, and editing equipment (Digital Media/Video Production area)
• Certified medical assistant with current CPR/First Aid Certification (Medical Assisting area)
• Experience in screen printing processes and specialized equipment
