About This Role

Provide instructional support to individual or small groups of students in vocational education programs, prepare classroom materials, maintain supplies, and offer record-keeping and clerical assistance to teachers and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students enrolled in designated vocational education programs
  • Monitor and oversee student drills, practices, and assignments in vocational education areas
  • Communicate with teachers, other staff, and students to acquire and convey information
  • Follow health and safety practices and procedures to ensure student safety and security
  • Monitor inventory levels of classroom supplies and assist in ordering, receiving, and maintaining supplies
  • Operate a variety of equipment including audio-visual, instructional, general office, computer, and industry-standard equipment
  • Perform general record-keeping and clerical functions, such as answering calls, typing, duplicating materials, and maintaining student records
  • Prepare classroom equipment, materials, work areas, displays, and exhibits for teacher support and a safe learning environment
  • Provide instructional support to students individually or in small groups under teacher direction
  • Support the health and safety of students by maintaining a safe, orderly, and clean learning environment

Requirements

  • Operating standard office equipment including pertinent computer and software applications
  • Operating industry-standard equipment relevant to Career Technical Education courses
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Basic math skills, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios
  • Understanding written procedures, writing routine documents, and speaking clearly
  • Understanding complex, multi-step written and oral instructions
  • Knowledge of concepts of grammar and punctuation
  • Knowledge of stages of child development and learning styles
  • Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices
  • Knowledge of safe classroom practices and basic instructional methods and techniques
  • Flexibility to work with data utilizing specific, defined processes
  • Ability to work with a diversity of individuals and with similar types of data
  • Communicating with diverse groups, orally and in written form
  • Maintaining confidentiality, setting priorities, working as part of a team
  • Monitoring and reporting student progress and behavior
  • Experience in a related area of assigned career technical subject education

Qualifications

  • Completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; OR possession of an associate's (or higher) degree; OR passing the District's local assessment
  • 2+ years experience working with functions related to assigned vocational education program
