Independence & Conflicts Network (ICN) - Manager, Engagement Matters

About This Role

This role is a Manager within the Engagement Consultation (EC) team, advising Deloitte's engagement teams on auditor independence requirements and their impact on professional services. The manager will apply professional judgment to analyze client services against independence requirements, partnering with leadership to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Partners, Principals, Managing Directors (PPMDs) and Senior Managers to provide guidance on engagement-related independence matters
• Address independence questions/concerns related to M&A, IPOs, affiliate relationships, and client structures
• Evaluate independence risks for newly developed solutions and technology-enabled capabilities including GenAI and Agentic AI
• Perform research and analysis, draft conclusions and communications, and strategize on next steps with senior team members
• Develop an understanding of AICPA, SEC, PCAOB independence rules and Deloitte US Firms Independence policies
• Interpret and implement new and existing regulations for permissible non-attest services for Deloitte US entities, advising client-facing teams
• Participate in policy setting by researching and drafting communications to increase awareness of independence rules
• Create and revise training courses and materials to address rule changes and new interpretations of rules
• Work on special projects independently and collaboratively with PPMDs and engagement teams

Requirements

• 5-8+ years of related experience, ideally in a professional services role and environment
• Proficient in the use of standard office-productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams)
• Ability and willingness to learn and effectively use AI-enabled tools and emerging technology solutions
• Strong research and investigative skills
• Ability to apply professional judgment in analyzing and evaluating proposed client services and relationships
• Strong executive communication capabilities
• Deep experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including senior leaders
• Comfortable navigating nuances and complexities in sensitive or emerging areas, with the ability to learn quickly
• Strong communication skills across audiences and levels of seniority globally
• Strong documentation and formal business writing skills
• Outstanding attention to detail, plus strong technical, organizational, and analytical skills
• Effective time management and prioritization skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (preferably accounting, finance, business, compliance, or legal)
• 5-8+ years of related experience, ideally in a professional services role and environment

Nice to Have

• An understanding of Independence requirements for professional auditing firms
• Experience in regulatory compliance, risk assessment and internal controls and interpretation of rules, regulations, and standards
• Experience in public accounting
• Strong understanding of Deloitte's businesses, service offerings, and how services are delivered
• Knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP standards
• Advanced degree in related areas such as finance, accounting, business, or law
