About This Role

This Director of Human Resources role is for an experienced professional to lead people strategy, talent development, and employee experience for a growing communications agency in New York City. The role is both strategic and hands-on, fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers, providing guidance and support on people-related topics
• Promote open communication and strong working relationships across teams
• Support managers in building engaged, motivated, and high-performing teams
• Partner with leadership to strengthen employee engagement, retention, and satisfaction
• Ensure consistent, people-centered HR practices across the agency
• Support employees through onboarding, role transitions, and career growth
• Partner with executive leadership to develop and execute people strategies aligned with agency growth
• Lead workforce planning, organizational design, and succession planning
• Oversee full-cycle recruiting for communications, marketing, creative, digital, and leadership roles
• Champion a collaborative, inclusive, and values-driven agency culture
• Lead diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across hiring, development, and advancement
• Design and manage performance management and review processes

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive HR experience with a strong focus on people strategy and employee experience
• Marcomm Agency experience
• Bachelor’s degree

Nice to Have

• Experience in a communications agency, professional services, or creative environment
• HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR)
