This Phlebotomy Tech I position is responsible for the collection and receipt of biological specimens, their proper entry into the computer system, and preparation for testing in a hospital, patient service center, or mobile diagnostic services setting.
Responsibilities
- Collect specimens, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and integrity using appropriate techniques for all ages
- Enter and verify patient demographics, physician data, tests requested, collection times, and pertinent data from requisitions
- Aliquat and label specimens according to established departmental procedures and deliver them to the technical area
- Perform initial processing and preparation of samples for transport
- Ensure all work performed is accurate and complete, completing documents legibly per site protocol
- Maintain familiarity with departmental procedures and use appropriate documentation to record communications
- Initiate computer generated reports for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring
- Focus on quality by ensuring all work performed is accurate and complete and meeting departmental standards for productivity and quality
- Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through appropriate use of supplies and materials, avoiding excessive waste
- Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers, focusing on teamwork
- Acknowledge and understand the importance of 'Patient Rights' and privacy (HIPAA)
Requirements
- Minimum age requirement of 18
- Basic knowledge of department resource materials
- Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience
- Ability to obtain DHS Fingerprinting Certification (if required)
- Valid state driver's license and elegibility for company auto insurance (if required for department/location)
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent may be required dependent on state regulatory requirements.
- Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience.

- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Additional related education and/or experience
