About This Role

This Phlebotomy Tech I position is responsible for the collection and receipt of biological specimens, their proper entry into the computer system, and preparation for testing in a hospital, patient service center, or mobile diagnostic services setting.

Responsibilities

  • Collect specimens, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and integrity using appropriate techniques for all ages
  • Enter and verify patient demographics, physician data, tests requested, collection times, and pertinent data from requisitions
  • Aliquat and label specimens according to established departmental procedures and deliver them to the technical area
  • Perform initial processing and preparation of samples for transport
  • Ensure all work performed is accurate and complete, completing documents legibly per site protocol
  • Maintain familiarity with departmental procedures and use appropriate documentation to record communications
  • Initiate computer generated reports for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring
  • Focus on quality by ensuring all work performed is accurate and complete and meeting departmental standards for productivity and quality
  • Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through appropriate use of supplies and materials, avoiding excessive waste
  • Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers, focusing on teamwork
  • Acknowledge and understand the importance of 'Patient Rights' and privacy (HIPAA)

Requirements

  • Minimum age requirement of 18
  • Basic knowledge of department resource materials
  • Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience
  • Ability to obtain DHS Fingerprinting Certification (if required)
  • Valid state driver's license and elegibility for company auto insurance (if required for department/location)

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent may be required dependent on state regulatory requirements.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Additional related education and/or experience
