Groundman - Overhead

About This Role

The Groundman position is an entry-level role assisting with the construction and maintenance of overhead electrical distribution systems. This role supports line-workers in building, repairing, and maintaining the nation's power grid, emphasizing safety and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Secure the safety of yourself and others on site
• Assist fellow line-workers in meeting project objectives
• Join storm restoration efforts when needed
• Operate vehicles and equipment professionally
• Continue training to improve technical and leadership skills
• Work safely on new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized overhead work
• Properly inspect rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• String overhead wire
• Set poles and anchors
• Assist with installing transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, cross-arms, insulators, switches and switchgear

Requirements

• Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment
• Able to read/write and communicate effectively
• Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required
• Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required
• Able to lift in-excess of 50 lbs
• Willing to work over-time when requested
• Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime
