Foreign Language Instructor - Spanish

About This Role

Conduct Spanish foreign language instruction for military personnel using proficiency-based methodologies and current Second Language Acquisition theories. Deliver both basic and advanced language/cultural training tailored to military specific needs, while adapting teaching strategies for individual student differences.

Responsibilities

• Provide language/culture instruction to students, ranging from basic survival language to intensive courses and Military Occupational Specialty specific instruction
• Deliver instruction focused on aural comprehension, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural contextualization skills in Spanish
• Prepare an instructional program, assemble materials, and teach assigned topics in accordance with approved curriculum
• Update lesson plans to include current events or examples relevant to students, adhering to Government specifications
• Submit written recommendations for curriculum updates to ensure consistency with latest applicable publications
• Adapt teaching strategies to account for student differences in lesson plans, activities, and instruction
• Introduce students to learning strategies aligned with their preferred learning methods
• Perform all language instruction with the goal of attaining measurable improvement in linguistic proficiency
• Employ both individual and small group work irrespective of student proficiency levels

Requirements

• 2+ years of recent foreign language teaching experience
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
• Minimum ILR 4 in Spanish (each modality to be taught)
• Minimum ILR L3/R3/S3/W3 in English
• Expertise in using methods and materials that facilitate proficiency-based instruction
• Familiarity with current strategies and theories addressing adult learner individual differences
• Experience in word processing using foreign fonts and Microsoft Office environment
• Experience in using templates to create computer assisted instruction lessons
• Expertise in integrating audio, video, and computer assisted multi-media into the foreign language classroom
• Experience in the operation and use of modern classroom and web-based technologies (interactive whiteboards, multi-media players, WebTools)

Qualifications

• 2+ years of recent foreign language teaching experience
