Foreign Language Instructor-Korean

About This Role

Conduct foreign language instruction for military personnel, focusing on Korean language and culture. Utilize Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) proficiency levels and current Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theories to enhance mission success.

Responsibilities

• Provide language/culture instruction to students, ranging from basic survival to intensive courses
• Provide instruction focused on aural comprehension, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural contextualization in target language
• Prepare an instructional program according to training requirements and teach assigned topics with approved curriculum
• Update lesson plans to include current events relevant to students, based on Government specifications
• Submit written recommendations for curriculum updates to ensure consistency with latest publications
• Adapt teaching strategies to account for student differences in lesson plans, activities, and instruction
• Introduce students to learning strategies alignment with their preferred learning methods
• Perform all language instruction with the goal of attaining measurable improvement in linguistic proficiency
• Employ both individual and small group work irrespective of student proficiency levels

Requirements

• 2+ years of recent foreign language teaching experience
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
• Maintain a minimum ILR 4 in Korean for modalities taught
• Maintain a minimum ILR L3/R3/S3/W3 in English
• Expertise in using proficiency-based methods and materials (ILR scale)
• Familiarity with current strategies and theories addressing adult learner individual differences
• Experience in word processing using foreign fonts and MS Office/Windows environment
• Familiarity with using templates for computer assisted instruction lessons
• Expertise in integrating audio, video, and computer-assisted multi-media in foreign language classroom
• Experience in operation and use of modern classroom and web-based technologies

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of recent foreign language teaching experience
