Food Service Assistant

About This Role

This role involves performing a variety of food service duties within a hospital setting, including cleaning, sanitizing, assembling patient food trays, and delivering meals. The position requires maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment while primarily reporting to the Food Service Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Assume a variety of tray assembly positions on the patient tray line (caller, dairy, toast, hot food, soup, salad/dessert, and beverage position)
• Strip trays returned from patients and load onto and unload from the dish machine in the dish room
• Assemble and deliver food supplies to patient food pantries on floors
• Deliver meal trays to patient rooms and retrieve trays after meals
• Deliver special nourishment items to floors
• Deliver celebration meals as assigned
• Maintain all work areas in a safe, sanitary manner by performing cleaning duties
• Assure that all products prepared meet department quality standards
• Maintain productivity to assure food service needs are met
• Follow safe food handling procedures to assure food wholesomeness at all times

Requirements

• Ability to read, write, and speak English and to understand written and oral instructions
• Ability to lift items weighing up to 35 lbs.
• Willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (gloves, hair nets/masks, slip resistant shoes, eye protection)

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• A minimum of six (6) months experience in the food service industry preferred
