About This Role

This Financial Analyst position supports Power Delivery by providing accounting and financial support, assisting in budget preparation and monitoring, and conducting monthly reporting and variance analysis. The role involves managing cash flow projections, compiling data for corporate planning, and participating in budget prioritization.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze the business, identify issues, and recommend solutions to improve budget/financial or operational performance.
  • Prepare monthly actual/budget and projection reports.
  • Provide budget variance explanations and summary reports to management.
  • Collaborate with Finance & Corporate Planning peers and Power Delivery customers to ensure proper budgeting.
  • Prepare documentation for monthly budget meetings and prioritization meetings.
  • Lead data collection and revision of the budget and projections.
  • Perform budget/financial research, analysis, planning, preparation, and monitoring.
  • Provide budgeting and accounting services and training for Power Delivery clients.
  • Ensure accurate accounting and provide general accounting services.
  • Provide management with analysis and information to help with resource allocation and cost savings identification.
  • Provide accounting guidance and data to Financial Planning for development of financial models.
  • Perform required control activities and audits to ensure compliance with internal controls, processes, and procedures.
  • Lead and/or manage special projects as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships and communications with business unit and corporate partners.
  • Support the business unit to ensure all budget/cost targets are met.

Qualifications

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred

Nice to Have

  • Southern Company budgeting experience
  • Experience in Utility Industry Budgeting & Accounting Organization
  • Experience in Budget preparation, reporting, and analysis
  • Proficiency with PowerPlan and/or Oracle Cloud applications
  • Utility or FERC accounting experience
