This Field Engineer role involves performing engineering duties in the planning, design coordination, and execution of tunnel, shaft, and underground construction systems. The position offers direct exposure to large-scale underground equipment, complex mechanical systems, as well as civil and geotechnical engineering.
Responsibilities
- Plan and support construction activities based on contract documents, drawings, specifications, and geological data
- Record, analyze and report construction activities, equipment performance, and system productivity
- Prepare cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, and temporary works
- Perform engineering calculations related to loads, stresses, fluid flow, pressure, and equipment performance
- Perform basic geotechnical and structural analysis
- Develop and review CAD drawings for equipment layouts and construction sequencing
- Perform hands-on field engineering activities including equipment inspections, system installation, and troubleshooting in the active tunnel environment
- Assist with quality control activities including document control, survey coordination, and material sampling
- Maintain and assist in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, and data networks
- Interface with superintendents, mechanics, electricians, and subcontractors to resolve field issues efficiently
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mining, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Prior related internship experience
- Ability to work a multi-shift operation and occasional Saturdays
- Strong technical report writing and documentation skills
- Proficient computer skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to adapt to fast-paced, evolving field conditions
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and implement practical, field-driven solutions
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, analyzing data and developing resourceful solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication, time management and organizational skills
- Ability to lift and carry 20-30 lbs and work in a confined space environment that is 80-150 feet below ground
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mining, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Prior related internship experience
