About This Role

This Field Engineer role involves performing engineering duties in the planning, design coordination, and execution of tunnel, shaft, and underground construction systems. The position offers direct exposure to large-scale underground equipment, complex mechanical systems, as well as civil and geotechnical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and support construction activities based on contract documents, drawings, specifications, and geological data
  • Record, analyze and report construction activities, equipment performance, and system productivity
  • Prepare cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, and temporary works
  • Perform engineering calculations related to loads, stresses, fluid flow, pressure, and equipment performance
  • Perform basic geotechnical and structural analysis
  • Develop and review CAD drawings for equipment layouts and construction sequencing
  • Perform hands-on field engineering activities including equipment inspections, system installation, and troubleshooting in the active tunnel environment
  • Assist with quality control activities including document control, survey coordination, and material sampling
  • Maintain and assist in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, and data networks
  • Interface with superintendents, mechanics, electricians, and subcontractors to resolve field issues efficiently

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mining, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Prior related internship experience
  • Ability to work a multi-shift operation and occasional Saturdays
  • Strong technical report writing and documentation skills
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to adapt to fast-paced, evolving field conditions
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and implement practical, field-driven solutions
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, analyzing data and developing resourceful solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift and carry 20-30 lbs and work in a confined space environment that is 80-150 feet below ground

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mining, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Prior related internship experience
