Estimator

About This Role

This Estimator role uses computer technology and mathematical skills to prepare material estimates for home construction. The role supports sales staff, assists contractors, and ensures adherence to company policies and local building codes.

Responsibilities

• Estimate the amount of materials needed for home construction according to company policy and local building code
• Assist salesmen as needed with customer orders and materials lists
• Assist in trim take-offs as requested
• Provide assistance to contractors as needed
• Train sales representatives in estimating techniques
• Assist sales staff with blueprint reading and construction procedures
• Review actual vs. estimated materials on completion of each project
• Work on sales/hardware counter as assigned
• Control expenditures to conform to company budgetary requirements

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in engineering or related area
• 1-3 years construction and building materials related experience
• Ability to read blueprints and other technical materials
• Ability to interpret building plans in diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables
• Ability to operate networked computer systems and specialized software application programs
• Excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills
• Understanding of measurements and basic math principles
