About This Role

This role involves serving as a subject matter expert in regulatory compliance to secure necessary approvals for energy generation and infrastructure projects. The Environmental Planner III will lead complex energy entitlement projects, applying expertise in zoning laws, environmental regulations, and energy sector planning principles. The position requires close collaboration with engineering teams, regulatory agencies, environmental specialists, and land acquisition experts to ensure project success.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply zoning codes, general plans, and regulatory frameworks to inform project decision-making.
  • Review and summarize legislative and regulatory updates, integrating them into project recommendations.
  • Develop public-facing materials, such as presentations, maps, reports, and digital content.
  • Engage with public agencies, private developers, and community organizations to integrate diverse perspectives.
  • Serve as a task or phase manager, overseeing entitlement deliverables, schedules, and budgets.
  • Assist in developing scopes of work, proposals, and cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists and engineers.

Requirements

  • 6+ years’ experience in land use policy, environmental planning, or related disciplines
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, planning, geography, or a related field
  • Valid driver’s license and active personal automobile liability insurance

Nice to Have

  • Experience with leading stakeholder outreach programs for energy projects
  • Experience with Colorado county permitting processes such as Conditional Use and Use by Special Review permits
  • Experience with the 1041 Environmental Review process
  • Experience developing projects on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands
  • Strong technical writing and research skills
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with public engagement, stakeholder coordination, and community outreach
