This role involves providing emergency veterinary care, including triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia, monitoring, and critical care nursing, while offering compassionate support to pet parents. The technician will handle a wide range of cases, from minor to complex emergencies, collaborating with doctors and the team.
Responsibilities
- Treat every patient and person with care and compassion, staying by their side through tests and treatments
- Deliver nursing care, treatments, and emotional support from first triage to discharge in critical moments
- Administer medications, monitor patients, and perform advanced procedures like IVs, CRIs, and blood transfusions
- Communicate effectively as a team member and act as a leader to shape plans and ensure care continuity
- Perform CPR according to RECOVER standards, utilizing trained skills
- Conduct diagnostics and imaging, collect samples, and place tubes
- Manage anesthesia for even the most fragile patients
- Utilize advanced techniques, including central lines, endoscopy, and ultrasounds
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in the state the VEG practice is located
- 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician role
- Basic computer skills and comprehension of practice management software and electronic medical record keeping
- Excellent communication and calm under pressure
- Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg on own and support up to 40 kg with assistance
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as needed basis
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited program strongly preferred
- 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician role; experience in emergency or specialty medicine preferred
Nice to Have
- Associate's degree or higher in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited program
- Experience in emergency or specialty medicine
- VTS in ECC, internal medicine or anesthesia/analgesia
