Install, repair, and maintain electronic equipment for the Utah Department of Transportation to ensure road safety. This role involves both lab and field work, often in varying weather conditions and around traffic or electrical hazards.
Responsibilities
- Install and repair Variable Message Signs (VMS), Electronic signs, CCTV cameras, and radar detection systems
- Work on solar-powered systems, battery backups, two-way radios, and modem communication
- Respond to reports of broken equipment and fix issues on-site
- Ensure all traffic and intelligent systems meet safety regulations and standards
- Drive and operate a bucket truck and use specialized calibration tools
- Participate in an on-call rotation for night and weekend emergency repairs
Requirements
- Must live within Davis, Weber, Morgan, Cache or Box Elder County
- At least two years of professional electrical/electronics work experience or electronics education (or a combination of both)
- Must hold International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I and II certifications OR a Journeyman Electrician License
- Familiarity with electrical systems, traffic signal technology, and computer systems
- Ability to obtain IMSA Level I within one year and Level II within two years (if hired as Specialist I)
Qualifications
- At least two years of professional electrical/electronics work experience or electronics education (or a combination of both)
Nice to Have
- A Journeyman Electrician license
- An Associate’s degree (or higher) in electronics or electrical technology
- Four or more years of combined education and professional experience
