About This Role

Perform electroencephalograms (EEGs) to measure and record brain electrical activity in laboratory and critical care settings, including auditory and visual evoked potential tests, while ensuring patient safety and maintaining equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Write a comprehensive patient history gathering appropriate information from patient, patient’s record and family members to include seizure types, date of last seizure, other neurological symptomatology and medications
  • Explain test procedure to patient and family members present, modifying communication based on age, developmental level and background of patient
  • Perform EEG record according to the standards of the laboratory (routine sleep, bedside and electro cerebral silence recordings)
  • Implement alternative methods or adjust control to obtain optimal recording, including appropriate control setting changes on the machine, use of extra electrodes, extra montages and use of activation procedures
  • Recognize artifact (patient or environmental) and document, eliminate, or take proper measures to monitor the artifact
  • Take appropriate actions during patient emergency situations and ensure patient safety at all times
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills with patients, patient families, lab staff, physicians and other members of the hospital staff
  • Orient new employees to job procedures as assigned by supervisor
  • Learn one modality of evoke potentials under supervision of Lab Supervisor
  • Complete Neonatal and Operating Room long-term monitoring electrocephalograph in NICU and outpatient pediatric patients after attending appropriate training programs

Requirements

  • Graduate of a 1 year program for EEG Technologists OR Registered by the American Board of Registered EEG Technologists with one year of experience performing electroencephalograms
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a 1 year program for EEG Technologists
  • 1 year of experience performing electroencephalograms, if not a graduate of a 1 year program

Nice to Have

  • ACLS Certification

Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required) R EEG within 2 years of hire (Required)
