Distribution Engineering Intern - Grid

About This Role

This internship provides the opportunity to work in a project team environment, using engineering knowledge to prepare construction deliverables, analyze and design distribution circuits, and support system maintenance. The role involves hybrid work, requiring three days a week in the office.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction deliverables and details for overhead and underground services (4 KV through 34 KV)
• Perform structural analyses
• Conduct voltage drop calculations
• Develop bill of material
• Create cost estimates
• Prepare permit drawings
• Coordinate with third parties
• Analyze and design distribution circuits
• Support maintenance and recapitalization of distribution components
• Plan modifications to the system
• Develop work packages
• Attend field visits

Requirements

• Strong interest in design
• Self-starter, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal direction
• Ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, create solutions, and meet deadlines
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
• Ability to adapt, proactively ask questions, and seek guidance when needed
• Strong communication skills

Nice to Have

• A degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program
• Familiarity with various distribution design/analysis software
• Experience with CAD and GIS software
• Experience in utility distribution inspections and/or construction
• Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, GIS/GWD
