Directional Drill Operator / Locator

About This Role

Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment to install conduit (500-1,000 feet daily) for a fast-growing telecommunications contractor. Maintain equipment, assist in site preparation, and ensure accurate record-keeping and inspections.

Responsibilities

• Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment to install 500-1,000 feet of conduit daily
• Maintain equipment according to manufacturer's specifications and safety guidelines
• Assist in potholing, remediation, setting hand holes, and pulling fiber
• Keep accurate records and complete as-built drawings
• Complete daily site inspections

Requirements

• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2 years working with Vermeer or Ditch Witch DDD, or equivalent
• 2 years working in telecommunications industry
• Knowledge of utility depths and placements and general construction practices
• Able to read blueprints/underground utility plans/redlines and interpret work assignments
• Adherence to directional drilling best practices
• Knowledge of job site safety practices
• Physical ability to work in trenches, manholes, tunnels, confined spaces, and noisy environments
• Ability to lift 75 lbs unassisted
• Willingness to work overtime and in all-weather conditions
• Ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of employment

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2 years working with Vermeer or Ditch Witch DDD, or equivalent; 2 years working in telecommunications industry
