About This Role

Operate directional drilling equipment and locate predetermined paths for telecommunications construction projects, ensuring safety near utilities and other obstacles. This role involves maintaining equipment, adhering to safety policies, and assisting with various construction activities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate drilling and various other construction equipment in compliance with company safety policies and procedures
  • Drill and/or locate predetermined path to exit point
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers to assist in support of drilling operations
  • Perform regular maintenance and care of assigned heavy equipment
  • Produce necessary documentation for each job and maintain daily communication with managers
  • Load and haul the machine if appropriately licensed
  • Drive, set up, and break down equipment safely and efficiently
  • Operate heavy equipment near active utilities
  • Have knowledge of shoring systems and how to use them
  • Rigging and setting of structures
  • Assist with placement of conduit in open trenches, proofing conduits, potholing existing utilities, forming and pouring of concrete, and placement of asphalt
  • Avoid marked utilities and implement all precautions to prevent utility strikes
  • Communicate with supervisors for job details
  • Inspect and maintain job equipment
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules
  • Walk path before equipment use to ensure all utilities have been located and develop a plan for avoiding obstacles
  • Travel overnight to various sites as requested

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year prior experience in drilling and using locating equipment to find underground utilities
  • Experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities
  • Valid unrestricted driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and MVR
  • Ability to operate equipment safely
  • Ability to read and understand plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of all OSHA and ANSI standards, as well as company rules & regulations
  • Basic computer skills
  • Experience and knowledge of basic shoring methods

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year prior experience in drilling and using locating equipment to find underground utilities

Nice to Have

  • Commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker endorsement or willingness to obtain
  • DOT Medical Card or willingness to obtain one
  • Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer
